PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT OF A PRODUCTIVE SMALLHOLDING
One day Courses with WILL SUTHERLAND at KILLOWEN, co. Wexford
GET READY FOR SPRING!
March is nearly upon us - time to plant the spuds, set the onions, spread the
compost and order your seeds. This year we are running 2 One Day
Courses specifically to help you get ready for spring.
Course 1 - Saturday 6 February
Course 2 - Sunday 7 February
Whether you are a beginner or simply trying to do more this year, this is a
chance to spend a day at the Killowen smallholding. You can learn
about all aspects of running an effective smallholding, ask your
questions and take part in practical demonstrations. Pests,
planning, composting, hens, pigs, preserving, brewing, weed control,
and more.
Whether you have 10 square yards or half a hectare the principles and the practice are very much the same.
Each course will run from 10 am until 5.00 pm and the cost will be 55
euro, including coffee, lunch and tea.
Numbers are limited to a maximum of 8 per session and pre-booking is essential.
For further information and to make a booking you can contact us
on 087 2071667 or email willsutherland@eircom.net
The School for Self Sufficiency has been running residential courses the
Killowen smallholding (near the Kennedy Ancestral Home) for the last 16

APRIL COURSES AT KILLOWEN - SOWING AND SEEDING
NEW SCHEDULE FOR THE SUMMER - EXPLORE THE FRENCH CONNECTION
The snow and frost has just left us and it's time to prepare for spring! We
will be running our first courses of the year at Killowen during April
(dates below) and then exploring new pastures by running courses near
Bordeaux in the south of France (dates to be finalised shortly).
Course content and basic schedule will remain unchanged. We had a very full
season this year with all our courses being fully subscribed. If you
want to book a place on one of the first 3 courses then please get your
deposit to us without delay. For those wishing to join us creating a
new smallholding in France during the summer then we suggest you mail
us straightaway (if you have not already done so) so we can put your
name on our waiting list.
The cost of the 5 day courses is 680 euro per person. This covers 6 nights on-site
accommodation, bed and breakfast (home made bread, eggs and jam plus
cereals, tea and coffee) plus 5 days tuition including coffee, lunch
and tea. Evening meals are prepared on a self catering basis (for those
without transport we'll be happy to take you to local shops to stock up
but note that essentials such as sugar, salt, pepper, washing up liquid
etc. are provided).
