There is apparently a proposal to licence any apparatus capable of recieving TV signals in whatever format. Sounds like a move to licence the old personal computer.

By the way the original nickname for the tv was the idiots lantern, even back in the 1950s people knew the damn thing would dumb people down.

I have taken the tuner out of our tv and got rid of the sat box, we still watch dvds of choice, but that is our choice. However, the point is that I have taken this up with the licencing people, because the licence is on the apparatus NOT use of the service, in other words, if you have a tv just for dvd playing they want to charge a licence fee for a service you don't use, obviously unlawful. I have a clarification from licence services regarding the Broadcasting act 2009, and it seems that licence inspectors might well have been misrepresenting the Act. Another case of unlawful revenue generation for RTÉ the well known NWO mouthpiece. If you have apparatus for viewing dvds of choice, do not pay the licence fee and do not waste money funding RTÉ.

I'm so happy without telly. I remember 10 years ago my life revolved around it. Coronation St, Emmerdale, Fair City, Eastenders, Casualty, The list was endless. I was heartbroken when they stopped making Brookside. Then late in the evening i'd watch Forensic Detectives on Sky. No one could speak when my programmes were on and i'm ashamed to say i pretty much ignored my family for telly. I regret that so much now. Since i moved away from Dublin Telly hasn't been an important part of my life. My time is taken up with my new surroundings, my kids, cats, chickens and then i got a laptop. Since the day i got the laptop there has been no tv watched in this house. Kids included, but i'm worried about the amount of video games they play now. I will never watch tv again. I go into peoples houses and they are mesmerised by it. They don't hear what i'm saying. It seems pointless to visit at all. I'm so happy not to be a slave to the telly.

I have 3 TVs in my home. One in each kids bedroom and 1 in the sitting room. The kids use the tellies for video games and the odd dvd.We never watch tv programmes ever and haven't done for about 2 or 3 years. I'm worried about the effects of the video games though. Particularly the Playstation 3 which they play online. They love it. Does anyone else have any views on video games, particularly online gaming. My boys are 10 and 12. But i'm pleased to say that my 12 year old has just joined the site. He's very interested in TNS. And he loves looking up stuff in the internet.
