English newspapers were often politically sponsored, and Grub Street was host to several such publications; between 1731 and 1741 Robert Walpole's ministry was reported to have spent about £50,077 (about £6.41 million today) nationally of Treasury funds on bribes to such newspapers. Allegiances changed often, with some authors changing their political stance on receipt of bribes from secret service funds. Such changes helped maintain the level of disdain with which the establishment viewed…

More and more, we are seeing citizens being invited to "participate" in various forms of meetings, councils, or boards to "help determine" public policy in one field or another. They are supposedly being included to get "input" from the public to help officials make final decisions on taxes, education, community growth or whatever the particular subject matter might be. Sounds great, doesn't it? Unfortunately, surface appearances are often…

The Scottish Constitutional Convention
The Claim of Right was launched in Edinburgh in July 1988 by cross-party groups who hoped to unite Scottish opinion into a demand for a Scottish Assembly or Parliament.
A declaration was signed in the Kirk's Assembly Halls on the Mound in Edinburgh on the 30 th of March, 1989 - in the same room where the Covenant had been signed by the Duke of…

No matter what culture you live in, or whatever religion you practise (if any) one thing we all have in common with each other is the planet we live on, or you could say the Planet we are a part of, everything we do or say changes the very make-up of our existence, no matter how big or small those actions are, we affect each other and the habitat in which we live. Some changes take place from second to second, minute to minute, and from hundreds of years to millions of centuries, these changes…

Hi All,
I have just joined this site and it's giving me a bit of hope.
thing is i had car finance in 2002 and got into bad debt so stopped paying it, i now have the solicitors onto me with an installment order and told i have to start paying it. Ok yes it's my own fault but is there anything i can do at this stage to even reduce the amount? as there's interest added on and i feel if anything i should only pay what i "owed" in first place. Would the letter to the bank (on this site) be…

One issue that I feel is very central to the Fall Creek treesit is the issue of anarchism. Anarchy is something that doesn't get mentioned much when they write about us in the newspapers. There's a few reasons for this: 1)because it only indirectly pertains to saving trees, 2)because it is too complex an issue to reduce into sound bites, and, 3)because the mainstream press probably doesn't understand that we are making anarchy work.
So instead of waiting for journalism to come to…

"After a National struggle sustained through many centuries, we have to-day in Ireland a native Government deriving its authority solely from the Irish people, and acknowledged by England and the other nations of the world.
Through those centuries - through hope and through disappointments -
the Irish people have struggled to get rid of a foreign Power which was preventing them from exercising their simple right to live and to govern themselves as they pleased - which tried to…

Hi all,
I've just finished my interview with Vincent and would like to put some of the web sites I mentioned up for you to look into the information for yourself. My contribution may have come across to you as been something like a buck shot
approach lacking focus, It was unrehearsed and came out as it did, But if you would like me to consuntrate on any particular issue mentioned or otherwise, I will be glad to reply.
Have a happy and fulfilling new year, and I look forward…

This is an amazing essay,
"The Nature of Government", written by Frederick Mann in 1994. It's long, but for sure you will have a much clearer view after reading it.
Also excellent is the article he refers to, "
Lies Our Forefathers Told Us" . I have both these, so if they…

In the words of an Irish governmental analysis, "The capacity to manipulate, store and transmit large quantities of information cheaply has increased at a staggering rate over recent years. The digitisation of information and the associated pervasiveness of the Internet are facilitating a new intensity in the application of knowledge to economic activity, to the extent that it has become the predominant factor in the creation of wealth. As much as 70 to 80 percent of economic growth is now said…
