Someone once told me the spraying was controlled by satellite, and the Aircraft's position. For me it has been confirmed when last week I saw two planes on the same heading, about 4 or 5 minutes apart, and they both left trails that were less than a mile long and sat side-by-side in the sky.
Having automated spraying would eliminate pilot error or "forgetfulness", as there is a lot to do on a flight deck during travel.

This was a good bit of work! They have been caught. We should all write to Air France Cargo and ask them what the hell is going on and don't give us any bullshit about contrails.
